My dental career brought me to AZ in 2015 and I have never wanted to leave! I have always enjoyed staying active, exploring new places and making friends, AZ has given me the opportunity to do all those things and more. INSPIRATION I’ve always known that I wanted to give back by helping others. Early on, I was drawn to the artistry of dentistry and how this art has the power to heal and positively impact someone’s life, and in many cases, save their life. Today, I feel grateful knowing that I not only enjoy the work that I do, but that I am making someone’s life that much better. EDUCATION I graduated from the University of Maryland with a bachelors degree in Biology. Shortly after, I received my Masters in Biomedical science and followed by that, a Doctorate of Dental Medicine from Midwestern University in Glendale, Arizona. I consider myself a life long learner and take every opportunity to look at situations with a unique perspective. PROFESSIONAL At work, the well-being of my patients is my primary concern. She is a clinical assistant professor at The University of Florida, a Clinical Advisor/ Lecturer for University of British Columbia, and has served as a visiting lecturer at the University of Miami. Dr. Ferguson served a tour of duty as a dentist in the U.S. Army at Ft. Benning Georgia and was a Co-Director for an implant training course in Dallas, TX. She is the Co-Founder and Co-Director of Implant Educators and maintains a private practice with her husband, Dr. Rick Ferguson. In the employment and business context, Helen drafts contracts, advises on business-start-up, and represents clients on all sides of the employment relationship- individual employees, managers, or employers. Routinely Helen negotiates and counsels clients on employment agreements, including non-competition, confidentiality, and severance agreements. Also, she drafts employment handbooks and various policies and procedures. Helen will advise businesses on best practices, including their sexual harassment training obligations. Helen has lectured on topics such as legal issues affecting small businesses and legal rights and obligations from multiple sides of the employer-employee relationship. Currently she is a faculty lecturer for Financial Poise in its Protecting your Employee Assets series. For the past two years she has been selected for inclusion in Super Lawyers in the area of employment law. Helen belongs to several civic and professional organizations. She is President of the Decalogue Society of Lawyers, which awarded her the Presidential Citation in 2015 and the Intra Society Award of Merit in 2001. She serves on the Alliance of Bar Associations, where she assists in screening judicial candidates. Her other bar association memberships include the Illinois chapter of the National Employment Lawyers Association, Women’s Bar Association of Illinois and the Illinois State Bar Association. She’s been around the block a few times and back. After graduation UCSF and UConn, she spent 10 years in private-practice and then in 2013 she pivoted sharply to research, product development, teaching and consulting with emphasis on aligners, IDB, airway, SDB and growth and development appliances. She now is the CEO of StraightSmile Solutions®, an orthodontic consulting company for general dentists and dental labs. She splits time between Hawaii and California and has 2 kids, age 10 and 13. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Valparaiso University, where he majored in Biology and Chemistry and minored in Theology. He received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Missouri – Kansas City School of Dentistry, where he received numerous prestigious awards and honors, including acceptance to Advanced Studies in Oral Surgery, membership in Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society, and highest academic achievement in Xi Psi Phi Dental Fraternity. Dr. Pernoud also completed a General Practice Residency program at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center in Houston, Texas. During that time, Dr. Pernoud gained additional knowledge and further developed his surgical skills by studying and performing advanced dental and medical procedures, including methods of sedation, at both the VA Medical Center and the MD Anderson Cancer Center. Dr. Pernoud is a member of the American Dental Association, the Missouri Dental Association, and the Greater St. Louis Dental Society. He is also a proud husband and father. Even practicing in a town of only 1300 people he has grown his office leveraging digital technology to provide advanced services like orthodontics and guided implant surgery.
